What are tools we can build for musicians - make it easier for them to promote their gigs, and for fans, to make it easier to to find out what shows are happening in their town.
want something that can cover bands, but also comedians, authors on book tour, etc. any sort of live performance.
Ideas:
- microformat that venues can put on their website, to help crawlers scrape out show info
- create a web service, allow bands to publish their show info (simple for musicians), make it pluggable, so that other people can tie into it.
services:
tourb.us
sonicliving
plone for artists (building online artist communities)
showcomber.org - just like sonicliving
upcoming.org
eventful.com
pingerati.net
purevolume.com
nancy tubbs -- full callender, resyndication
event information driving new economy - kevin huges @ commerce.net (white paper)
tools - adding automatic microformat publishing in CMS platform
wordpress - structured blogging plugin, will automatically add hcalendar to blog posts
plone
make a widget plugin that subscribes to hcalendar feed for a user, show i can show all of the shows that i'm going to on my website
tails - firefox extension that picks up embedded hcalendar and hcard information in a web page
live clipboard - copy/paste this information around
goal:
need to get bands using CMS that automatically broadcasts their hcalendar info across the internet. or plug-in components into existing website.
for new bands, get them doing things the right way
work on getting booking agents, A&R, using these microformats to broadcast information about their band's shows
problem with just hcalendar is that it is just calendar info, doesn't include any semantic information about the event (is it music, jazz music, etc?). hcalendar has category tags, so that should solve it??? could nest an hcard with the band information.
