A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. MobileCamp is a mobile-technology-themed BarCamp.

MobileCampNYC was the first MobileCamp to be held in NYC and focus on mobile technology. It was enjoyed by all, as you can see on the official page here.

MobileCampNYC2 is going to once again bring together mobile enthusiasts, explorers and professionals to share the current state and their visions for the future direction of mobility. MobileCampNYC2 hopes to support the many voices helping to unlock the potential of a truly digital life. Topics may include - but are not limited to - mobile gaming, entrepreneurship, social mobility and presence, near field communication, physical hyperlinking, mobile storytelling, the importance of open standards, protocols, and platforms, linux based devices, and mobility on other continents.

Note: We have merged MobileCampNYC2 with MobileBarCodeCamp, since the overlap of both events are big enough to make it into one. The idea is to have a dedicated track for all things related to Barcodes, RFID and Physical Hyperlinking in general. For this track we will have 10 sessions dedicated to one room (although it is still possible to use free spots on the main grid later.)

Check out the TheRulesOfBarCamp to learn what to expect.

The Head Trauma Cinematic Games

Creating story worlds that engage audience across multiple screens and platforms.

No one is safe from the Net effect of HEAD TRAUMA, the brainchild of Lance Weiler, culture hacker and acclaimed writer-director. Murder and mayhem emerge from the streets, mobile phones, social networks, and online video clips as Horror 2.0 updates thrills from today’s most pervasive mediums.

Subversive (Mobile) Storytelling

Knifeandfork explores methods of embodied narrative using mobile phones. Brian House presents case studies of Hundekopf (2005, Berlin) and The Wrench, a forthcoming project for Rhizome.org using the new open source TXTML platform.

Using Geolocation in your mobile applications

Lets discuss the available mobile geostack and the pitfalls or benefits related to each one. If you have a mobile app that uses location, bring it and show it off.

    • Working with Orange: we're here to help

A very short plug (no more than 10 min!) to talk about a few programs that we set up to help developers get their apps to work in the hands of 100+ million users.

    • Add your session here

Workshops

Up to 1 hour can be reserved to show and share with others what you are passionate about. Workshops are a lot of fun and we want to encourage you to conduct one. Workshops will be scheduled live during BarCamp by writing your name and topic on the event grid.

    • Add your workshop here

Promote the event:

BarCamp grows by word of mouth (and word of blog). Tell your friends and people that you think will enjoy sharing a day with like-minded.

  • Record the event: For people who are unfortunate enough to attend this gathering can someone record the sessions and post them online? Blip.tv has no file size limit when uploading and you can even upload via FTP!

Stuff that you want to talk or hear about

  • Physical Hyperlinking (see BarCode track)
    • QR Codes, NFC services and their adoption
    • The Usage of Open Standards vs. Island solutions
  • Security and safety using mobile services

  • One URI to bind them all? Device detection vs. m.you.com and you.mobi
