BarCamp NewsInnovation Portland is one of the regional editions of BarCamp NewsInnovation.
The idea is to get energetic, tech-savvy, open-minded individuals who embrace the chaos in the media industry because the ability to do really cool things still exist.
Everyone may participate, especially people outside of the news industry who love to consume news and information and are great thinkers and innovators.
Event details
When: TBD very shortly. We're looking at Feb. 21 as a possibility.
Where: TBD - If you can offer a venue, please propose it. We'll need to evaluate the options based on the number of participants expected and where we're coming from.
Daniel - I think CubeSpace in Portland is generally pretty conducive to hosting events like these
Michael Werner (twitter.com/mwerner1): The University of Oregon recently moved into the White Stag building in Portland. It's a great place for meetings and conferences. If you have more details (e.g. date and number of attendees) I can check into it.
Melinda B.: The Vanguard is happy to host an event on Portland State's campus. We would just need to fill out a room request in advance with the number of people, the type of room layout you want (one large conference table, several long thinner tables, circular ballroom-style tables, etc.), and any other details.
Sponsors
Interested in sponsoring? We'll need some help with the meeting space, refreshments and other items.
Please contact one of the planners if you or your company wants to help defray costs.
Schedule
TBD
Proposed Sessions: (Add a session you're interested in guiding here)
- Blogging the Beat (Matt): What I've learned about using the blog to expand my reporting, with resources for learning more...
-
Topics I would like to hear about
- Daniel - what are the core competencies of a news organization online? re: a 10000words post about sections rendered obsolete by the web
- Matt: Yes, but let's expand to core mission of a news organization: online, print, whatever. It's time to come to Jesus, re: Josh Korr "Why not writing a story is innovation"
- Sure, or even expand to what is journalism online...
- Daniel - Ok, I agree. That's better focus. I think it'll be important to discuss what format news will take online because I think journalism is already fragmenting past text.
- How do we pay for good journalism online? Business models: anyone using one that works?
- Independent journalists: Is freelancing our future?
- How do we maintain integrity while moving to an all-digital future?
