What is Osmosis?

Osmosis is MindTree's annual technology festival -- the celebration of the nerd within all of us as we like to call it. It is MindTree's way of celebrating technology through showcasing achievements, through collaboration in form of discussions and various events & contests.

Osmosis, started in 2005, is into it's 3rd edition this year and has achieved great success in its first two editions in all aspects - scope, size, content quality, participation and excellence.

Osmosis runs for more than a quarter and consists of the following:

  • Technical Paper Contest, weekly Community Quizzes, TechWorks Contest, Design Patterns Contest, Code War, Knowledge Safari stalls put up by various communities, practices, verticals within MindTree.
  • Invited talks/events where our partners & technology leaders come and share their knowledge with us.
  • Student Paper Contest, where we reach out to more than 50 Engineering colleges, MBA institutes for paper writing contests. This gives the undergraduate students an opportunity to exercise and improve technical, written and verbal communication skills

Osmosis culminates in a grand finale in mid-December with Key Notes, Panel Discussions, Invited talks and CTO sessions.

What's different this year ?

This year Osmosis is being reinvented to make it it even more participative & self organized. For example:

  • Osmosis final day will be an ‘unconference’ where participants will decide, organize and lead the discussions on the final day of Osmosis.
  • For the various contests of Osmosis, e.g. the paper writing contest, photography contest etc. all MindTree Minds are part of the evaluation process and have a say in selecting the winners in addition to the formal evaluation. In past, the evaluation was only through a formal panel of experts. This year, MindTree Minds can rate & evaluate the papers, photograpgs, TechWorks on the same parameters as the formal panel of experts. The ratings from the open evaluation and formal evaluation will be collated to decide the winners of the various contests.
  • For the CTO session on the final day, MindTree Minds will provide inputs & suggest topics to the CTO’s, and the CTO session will be in form of a discussion & debate rather than a uni-directional CTO talk.
  • Equivalent of Flickr, Blogger platforms have been created for MindTree Minds to share blogs, stories, pictures around Osmosis, capturing the unfolding of Osmosis through their eyes, as they see it -- effectively providing each MindTree Mind an opportunity to become an equivalent of a Citizen Journalist.
  • MAG (MindTree Artists Guild) conducts a photography contest every year as part of Osmosis. This year, the best photographs will be decided by MindTree Minds through an internal equivalent of Flickr. These photographs would then form part of the picture gallery in the upcoming office buildings of MindTree.

Open to external participation

Keeping in line with the inclusive, participative & self organized spirit of Osmosis 2007, MindTree has decided to open up participation in the Osmosis unconference to the vibrant unconference community in India. This will enable sharing, learning & cross pollination of ideas and also spread the culture of 'unconferences', 'barcamps' to mainstream corporate India. This would also enable us to share our experiences with the world on how social & emergent concepts like unconferences can be weaved into the corporate culture and what adaptation, if any, is required in the unconference concept to make it work within an organization.

In the true spirit of an unconference, all campers are welcome to take sessions and speak on topics that they want to, apart from attending whichever sessions you want to. At the Osmosis unconference, there will be NO distinction between external participants & MindTree Minds (MindTree Employees)

If you want to propose a topic, add it in the Proposed Sessions section. If you are planning to present at the Osmosis unconference, also register yourself at the Campers section in addition to entering the relevant details in the Proposed Sessions section.

Proposed Sessions

In the true spirit of an unconference, all campers are welcome to take sessions and speak on topics that they want to. In keeping with the technology focused nature of Osmosis, it is recommended that the suggested topics for the unconference be technology related (techno-business sessions are fine).
