Since the original event listed below - there was another REBarCampRDU on 9/10/10 and a third one on 10/21/2011. The 2010 event was the largest by far - and included 3 pre-camp "learning labs" (each 3 hours long) for those who were new to Social Media. In addition, the 2010 Camp also held a Blog Brawl Contest for 4 weeks prior to Camp, pitting 16 of the state's best Real Estate Bloggers against each other. Jenn Nowalk, was the winner. The 2010 camp had 325 registered to attend and over 285 accounted for on the day of the event. The 2010 Camp was held at the RRAR. Volunteers for the 2010 Camp included: Eleanor Thorne, Amy Shair, Pamela St. Peter, Meredith Morgan, David O'Doherty, Lisa Anderson and Paige Todd.
The 2011 Camp was, by design, a much SMALLER camp, with about 150 attendees. We held the Camp at the Capital City Club in Raleigh on the 21st Floor. Literally, playing in the Clouds! (LOL) The Camp was more on an "Advanced" track - with few true "newbies." In fact, there were few "where do we start/101 sessions." Most sessions were "Advanced Blogging for Leads, Hyper Local Blogging, Video Blogging." In addition, we had 2 very important sessions on Short Sales - one was a conversation lead by an Attorney (who will handle the Short Sale for an Agent/Seller for a fee) and an Agent who Focuses on Short Sales Exclusively - the conversation asked the question "When you come across a Short Sale - Should you Go It Alone?" Much of the Conversation was about the overall Consumer Experience. In addition to that, we had a Santa (yes he's really a Certified Santa) / Minister / Realtor discuss the "The Compassion in Real Estate" - How do we act as Grief Counselors? Lastly (along that same path) we had a session on "Your Customer's Experience, is it Disney or Wendy's?" and in that session we talked about what we need to do to insure that people continue to want to own Real Estate, and how to communicate the Value of Home Ownership to the Public. Overall, it was a great Camp! Volunteers for the 2010 Camp included: Eleanor Thorne, Steve Thorne, Amy Shair, Pamela St. Peter,, David O'Doherty, Lisa Anderson and Paige Todd.
BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. This BarCamp is specifically devoted to the Real Estate Industry.
