Wake The Sleeping Giant
Overview
- In the US there are millions of properties and owners that could/should be installing a renewable energy system (solar or wind)
- We will dub this group "The Sleeping Giant"
Objectives
- If we can wake this sleeping giant there would be an economic and environmental impact like none other
- If we can wake this sleeping giant the US could become truly energy independent
- If we can wake this sleeping giant our children will have a much, much better place to live
Team
- Mike
- I could use a few hundred or thousand more Team Members to help. This is a very big giant and it has a hangover. He is very comfortable as is. He does not want to be disturbed.
Timeline
- Kickoff: Sunday, September 20, 2009
- Completion Date: For me - When I die. For other members of the Team - Until they die.
- Release: Sunday, September 20, 2009
- Celebration: Please include a few words when writing my epitaph
Tasks/Milestones
- Pick a geographic area - Town, Village, City, County... to establish a benchmark
- Find out how many solar or wind energy systems were installed last month and last year
- Set a goal to double those numbers. Example: If 1 system was installed last month then next month we will want to show two systems have been installed
- Get the word out that this Team was responsible for "doubling" the number of renewable energy systems installed in the XX area last month
- Repeat the above process for 12 months
- Example: Green Bay, Wisconsin
- In August there was 1 solar electric system was installed
- For October we would double that: 2
- For November we would double that: 4
- For December we would double that: 8
- Etc.
- By October 2010 the number of monthly installations will be at 2,048
- Get the word out that this Team was responsible for increasing the number of renewable energy installations in the Green Bay area from "an average of one per month to an average of 2,048 per month.
Issues
There are a limited number of installation contractors, component manufacturers and supply houses. While they have been hoping for this type of volume increase there has not been the activity to warrant investment of capital to build an infrastructure to manage this level of increase in volume. Due to this their ability to provide product and installers hit capacity. There will be a huge backlog. This will be a nice problem to have and will need to be dealt with. Fortunately our capitalistic ways will step forward to provide solutions.
Conclusion
Anyone that does the math with realize the impact we have made. We will have woken the the Sleeping Giant.
This is all very real. Anyone here at barcamp wishing to help is welcome. Additional information is available at www.TheRenewableNetwork.com
