StartupCampWaterloo

DateTuesday June 3, 2008
Time6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Location Waterloo Accelerator Centre, 295 Hagey Blvd., Waterloo
Expected AttendanceAll are welcome!

Previously: StartupCampWaterloo1 and StartupCampWaterloo2 photos video

A group has been created so please join to discuss BarCamps or DemoCamps in the region. Also there's a Facebook group too!

Agenda (The plan in a draft form)

StartupCampWaterloo borrows from DemoCamp except we have a *main speaker* and a couple set presentations from members of the community. The StartupDemo gives you a chance to get your idea out there and get feedback so you can strengthen your idea.

The intention is that the demos are from technology people who are thinking about starting a company, or have recently started a company and are looking for ideas or feedback. It's not so much a pitch, it's a dialogue - you ask us questions, we heckle you! It's a discussion and learning opportunity for everyone - we all get to see what you are asking and what you get back from the audience of technologist and business-types.

  1. Intro, rules, etc
  2. Panel following a 20x2 format but with 10 people, question: Why start a startup?
    1. Panel members: Iain Klugman, Larry Borsato, Illya Grigorik, Ali Asaria, Melanie Baker, Sandra MacDonald
  3. Want to present? (Whoever wants to present gets 60 seconds or less, what is your idea, what you want to talk about. This will only happen if more than six people want to present.)
  4. food (be social, vote for what you want to see on the whiteboard)
  5. StartupDemo-style presentations, round 1

    Breakdown:

    1. who are you?
    2. what issues do you want help with e.g., market validation, business model, marketing, etc
    3. audience participation in answers
  6. break (start talking to people)
  7. repeat

Over the evening experts in certain topic areas will be identified, the idea is to use the break time to have small group discussions.

Demos (List will make up the StartupDemo presentations. If we don't have more than six then we will skip the 60 second intro.)

Please add what you would like to see at StartupCampWaterloo that isn't listed above.

Community

Help build the community. Add your events, thoughts, etc to the WatCamp page!

What is it?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. StartupCamp follows the same spirit but we try and focus on the joy a start up brings.

(Part of the WatCamp community. The previous BarCampWaterloo was BarCampWaterloo_September06, BarCampWaterloo_December06, BarCampWaterloo_March07 and BarCampWaterloo_May07.)
