Transport Hero Camp Sessions

This page will be filled up with Session Titles as they are proposed. Please turn these titles into links by sticking square brackets around the text of the title, save the page, then click on the link to start filling in your notes on the session!

Session Slot 1:

Some of the ideas floated were

- commuter coaches - since the employer has all the addresses and start times of the employees the route and schedule of a coach/minibus/van to call at each employees home and get them to work on time is not technically difficult. It might also be cheaper than providing parking

- Commuter Chek is an employer provided tax deductible way to pay for workers' transit - widespread in the US it is not provided here as Canada tax code for commuting is regressive - it does not recognize the social value of transit but encourages driving

- Travel$mart has been widely used to break down the information barriers to transit use - see Perth W Australia for example

- Both Google and Microsoft provide shared van service for employees

- New private enterprise initiatives are needed to help make this system work for smaller companies - for example all the employers at one suburban office park

- Barriers to commercial shared rode services need to be removed but it was recognised that some security and safety provisions are necessary

The session went on to how to help make transit safer and more attractive to use, not just for employees but everyone
