* Translink is thinking about a public bicycle sharing operation, similar to the hugely successful Velib system in Paris. This idea was very warmly received by everyone – it would be great if it happened! Needs to be planned to start in the summer. An issue in BC is the helmet law. It was noted that there are no helmet laws in European countries. Also that the health benefits of cycling through increased exercise are such a huge boon that they outweigh the barrier-to-entry of a law requiring helmets, and most bicyclists would still wear helmets.

* Skytrain stops could provide bike lockers, secure parking areas (BEST runs a bike valet parking program).

* Bike lanes and bus routes on the same road is BAD. Burrard st, Pender st mentioned.

* Preference for bikeways that are bi-directional, rather then one-way. Social aspect of seeing passing bikers going the other way.

* Lots of mention of Broadway/Commercial as a hub that intersects cyclists.

* Bike routes under the elevated skytrain platform would provide a nice covered route.

* Bike racks on buses: night situation needs to get sorted out already. People like them, but right now they can’t be relied on. Racks that could hold more then 2 bikes would be nice. VACC practice rack was a good teaching tool, maybe there could be one at a skytrain stop?

* Bikes on ferries: nowhere to lock up bike. Getting a bike to the Tsawwassen ferry is hard (bus racks are full, massey tunny).

* Put lights on your bike if you ride at night.

* Burrard Bridge changes. Improvements are also desired for the Dunsmuir and Grandview viaducts.

* Cycling in Vancouver mailing lists:

*Velolove announcements is a community list that will send you occasional emails about important bike things. Every cyclist should subscribe.

*Velolove discussion is a BarCamp style open community list with a wide range of topics. Average 2.5 emails per day.

*VACC discussion list is the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition list. Topics are more focused on advocacy and government. Averages 2.5 messages per day.
