Thank You for Your Blessings
Wedding gifts are commonly presented to the betrothed as a gesture of courtesy or love in the spirit of the special ceremonial celebration. This unspoken tradition has been practiced since before we can remember. These gifts may come in the form of practical household objects such as microwaves, kettles, cutlery sets and such whereas some are more decorative objects such as photo frames, wind chimes and little house trinkets. Sometimes, gifts are given as sums of money.
Sometimes, guests go through the dilemma of not knowing what to get for the couple. Most of the times, this causes gift clichés, resulting in the couple getting five electric kettles when instead they needed a microwave. Thus, in this modern age, there is the ingenious invention of the gift registry.
Of course, it is never easy to construct a gift registry. Of course, a gift is from the heart, a blessing, usually what the person wants to give you and it’s not very nice to ask for a specific gift. But nowadays, things have changed. A gift registry isn’t seen as something offensive but something helpful. But one must be careful to construct it systematically, or else, there will be too many duplicated gifts.
Here are some pointers you might want to consider while constructing gift registry.
Research
Going window shopping would be a great way to construct your list. That way you can see and feel the product and then determine whether it really is what you want and need. The World Wide Web is not always the most reliable source as it may show a product much differently than how it actually is, and you may just end up disappointed.
Gift Prices
Some gifts may be an expensive affair and thus you don’t want to over burden your guests. While some guests may together buy you an expensive gift, others may want to individually present you with a personal affordable gift, and thus, making sure that there is a great variety of less expensive gifts is a must.
What you need or prefer
Of course, while preparing your registry, you need to consider what you prefer. Take for example that you need toiletries or even electrical appliances. You may even need paintings or potted plants as house decorations. Put it on the list.
Your daily routine or your lifestyle
Ask yourself questions like, will you spend a lot of time in your kitchen? If so, you may require more variations of kitchenware. Are you a musician? Will you prefer instrument stands? You don’t have to just list down what you need, but what you like as well. For example, you see a vase that you think would complement the empty space in the corner just perfectly, and you know exactly what brand it is. List it down.
Don’t be too controlling
Your guests want to buy you gifts as a blessing to your marriage. Don’t make them feel as if they must give you what’s on the list. Also, make sure you have a great variety for them to choose from on your list. This way they won’t feel so constricted.
Remember, a gift registry is not gift duplicate proof. You will have to expect some duplicates. But whatever it is, make sure you make it clear to your guests that you are grateful for any gift, and don’t forget to thank them.
