Yulcamp

ou à mort la langue de bois!

What's a YULCamp?

Tuesday, 8AM, 1 September 2009, in Montréal. Location to be announced later. For more info: info@yulcamp.org.

YUL is the airport code for Dorval and therefore for Montreal. Yulcamp, is the BarCamp style unconference in Montréal.

An unconference is a:

  • informal way for preneurs (be they entre or intra) to network & connect with other businesses without the formality of the traditional methods.
  • place to find concrete solutions to issues that get us going
  • place that allows us to present our work in a short & simple way (10-15 minutes max).

For more information on what a barcamp is, please see Barcamp's official site : barcamp.org.

Theme

Although "BarCamp" suggests a wide breadth of subjects, YULcamp's theme is focused on (new) business practices in the context of sustainability & economic post-liberalism. Our generation knows very well that we can talk about noble principles but the time to act is now! Entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs (or just "preneurs") are taking risks (reputation, facility) & innovate the meaning they give their work & their businesses.

Here are some examples of presentation subjects that fit in with the Yulcamp theme:

  • Efficiency & waste reduction (material, energy, expertise...);
  • Collaborative product development;
  • Relations between businesses & their communities;
  • Cultural innovation process, of creativity & continuous innovation;
  • New economy, new politico-economic infrastructures;
  • Mobilise a neighbourhood for a better distribution of landed property;

Rules

Yes, there are a few rules. Here they are:

  1. No tourists : Tourism is absolutely forbidden in all barcamps, including YULcamp. A tourist is a spectator who derives benefits without making a contribution. To be admitted to YULcamp, you must either :
    1. Volunteer (contribute to organising YULcamp with time or money)
    2. Present (contribute ideas by presenting them to all YULcamp participants)
    3. All of the above! Is that possible ? You better believe it !
  2. No sales pitches : Under no circumstance may the presenters name or talk about a product or service: presenters may discuss the way a product is made, but can't discuss the product itself.
  3. Stay on topic: See above. The audience will decide but if it's off-topic, it's off-topic.
  4. Open sharing of ideas : All the ideas & content contributed during YULcamp stay the property of their author, but the author automatically consents to their free and unlimited use by whomever wishes to do so. The collaborative approach is at the heart of the process. The development market is vast and in full expansion and competition is possibly not the ideal model when we're talking about changing the world!

Am I going?

Présentateurs

In addition to signing up here, each presenter must put their business card in a big hat from which the MC will draw the name of the next presenter. Here is the lsit of presenters so far:

Volontaires

Of course we could use some help! We suggest the following task separation, but like all Yulcamp things, they change as quickly as they are contributed to the page. Certain tasks will be coupled with a sponsorship in the form of a budget or a material contribution from one of our sponsors. Here is a list of our volunteers:
