Update: We have 350 registered participants from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Korea, Japan and Thailand. Looks like we'll have an awesome Barcamp in SG this time.  Joining us from outside Singapore?  Check this page with information on flights, visas and guesthouses in Singapore.

BarCamp

  • is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
  • It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.

Notes for those presenting or leading a discussion

Technically you have only 25 minutes, as we need 5 minutes for people to exit and enter. Keep your presentations short - say 10 or 15 minutes and spend more time on discussions, Q&A. Post your presentations on Slideshare.net with the tag barcampsg5. If you are running a longer session (or a hack session) book two simultaneous slots.

Notes for those attending sessions

We will probably have more than 250 people from Singapore and abroad joining us. So expect only standing room for popular presentations. In barcamps, we follow the "law of two feet".  If the presentation of discussion in your room is not interesting for you, please feel free to move to another room.

BarcampSingapore5 networking night at Hackerspace.SG

At hackerspace party

After the main event ends, Hackerspace.SG will host a meet at 70A Bussorah Street. It will take you around 25 minutes to get to Hackerspaces.sg (Bugis MRT) from the barcamp venue (Singapore Poly at Dover MRT).

What is a Barcamp?

A barcamp is an informal gathering of people interested in startups, technology, education, media, travel and popular culture. We talk about the projects we are working on and try to learn from each other.  If this is your first barcamp, please check out  the visual guide to barcamps.  We will have multiple rooms for you to run discussions and presentations. Come early in the day to post your topic on the topic wall. Depending on the popularity of the topic, we will assign a room and a time-slot for the speakers. Each session will run for 30 minutes. We will also run lighting talks - every presenter gets 5 minutes to do a mini-presentation.

Previous barcamps in Singapore were hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, NUS and supported by Yahoo!, Google, Sun, Motorola, Siemens, Brandtology, Opus, Sqlview, E27 and the tech community.
