The Archives And Technology Unconference (TAATU) 2012
TAATU is a BarCamp for Archivists that takes place the day before the Annual Conference of the Association of Canadian Archivists. A BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees.
9:30 am - 5 pm, Wednesday, June 6th 2012
exact location still tbd, Whitehorse, Yukon
WE are still hoping to get a space at the new Library. To save paying for a room at the hotel (and having free wifi access) we may end up at a cafe near the conference hotel, Baked. Mmm coffee!
TAATU will be a free, laid-back event designed for all archivists interested in IT and digital culture to meet other professionals, exchange ideas, and have some geeky fun. There is no minimum IT experience requirement, alpha-geeks and wannabe-geeks are equally welcome. The only requirement is that you are expected to participate in some manner, whether that is doing a brief presentation, blogging about the event, facilitating a brainstorming group, participating in the discussion, etc.
The day's activities includes the annual meeting of the Technology and Archives Special Interest Section (now TaASIS, formerly SISER). TaASIS members in particular are urged to come out for the whole day, and not just the TaASIS meeting - TAATU is an opportunity for minds to meet and archival technology issues to be pondered, debated, and solved.
Registration
Simple. Add your name under the list of Participants below. Then you're registered. Due to room size, registration is limited to 40 participants.
You have to create an account to log in. Then go to the TAATU 2012 - Whitehorse page, select the EDIT tab (top left), type in your name under Participants, type your name in again under Participation Sign-up, then SAVE (bottom left) and log out.
In the past, one of the main TAATU attractions was the ability to show off geek cred to archives colleagues with an ironic slacker t-shirt. We currently need ideas for designs and someone to take charge of the t-shirts (in 2011 this site was used: easy to design on-line, good price, good customer service: http://www.customink.com/ ). If you want a TAATU-2012 t-shirt please add your name and t-shirt size to the T-shirt list below. The $TBD will be collected at the start of TAATU. To keep this a free event, t-shirts are optional and will be available (cost: TBD).
