In addition to speaking, volunteering, and attending, here are some ways that individuals and organizations can support and help bring to life History Camp

Organizations

  • Provide the space for the event
  • Provide financial support so that we can bring lunch in--maybe even coffee and donuts in the morning--and get some t-shirts.  Barcamp will be free for all.  The goal of any donations from individuals or organizations is simply to break even.
  • Interested in having a table to hand out material or do a demo in exchange for a donation (amount TBD)?  If you would like to participate as a sponsor, let us know (Lee Wright), or simply add the name of your organization with a link, your name (with a link to your e-mail address), what you'd like to do, and the amount you'd like to donate to this section of the wiki.

Individuals

  • We'll add a donation mechanism to the site/wiki so that people can donate; we may provide a way to collect donations on-site.  When this is in place, we'll send a note to the list.
  • Boston Barcamp, which is a hugely successful annual event and was the inspiration for History Camp, has a model where people who donate $20 get the event t-shirt.  A small number of shirts are sold for $30 at the event.  (Those amounts may be off, but that's the idea.)

Authors

  • What about having places for authors to sell their books and asking for a donation?  $20?  More?  Less?  If you are an author and think this is something you'd like to do, add the name of your book (feel free to include a link for more information on your or your book), your name (with a link to your e-mail address), and the amount you will donate to this section of the wiki.  We realize that your participation and donation are contingent on date and location that will work for you.  Be sure and sign up for the mailing list for updates.

Food

  • We're hoping that there will be money to cover coffee/juice/something in the morning and lunch.  If you are in the business of providing food and want to participate by offering a discount or donating breakfast or lunch, in whole or in part, let us know. (Lee Wright)

Managing money and ensuring transparency

  • As noted above, History Camp will be free for anyone who wishes to attend.
  • Like other barcamps I'm aware of, there is no formal legal structure, and a volunteer handles the money.  If you're interested in being that volunteer, let me know.  (Lee Wright)   Whoever that is will publish an account of income and expenses here; other organizers and any interested volunteers are welcome to follow along or review after the fact.
